Get Involved: Pro Bono Opportunities Loan Modification Scam Redress Project, Fair Housing Law Project
Mortgage modification scammers prey upon homeowners who are facing foreclosure and are desperately trying to stay in their homes. Scammers promise to obtain loan modifications and save homes, but in reality aim to victimize those in financial trouble. Pro bono attorneys can help scam victims and hold scammers accountable by providing legal advice, reporting scams to enforcement authorities, assisting homeowners in preparation for small claims court or providing representation in attorney fee arbitration hearings when the bad actor is an unscrupulous attorney.
Guardianship Panel, Legal Advocates for Children & Youth
LACY's Guardianship Panel provides representation to children and families in guardianship matters. Many children in our community are not able to live with a parent because of death, incarceration, abuse or neglect. Pro bono attorneys can help a child achieve safety and stability by representing the youth or prospective guardian in a guardianship proceeding.
School Discipline Panel, Legal Advocates for Children & Youth
Education is the key to a child's future success. Yet more and more schools are depriving youth of an appropriate education by unfairly subjecting them to zero tolerance policies and the harsh punishment of expulsion. Pro bono attorneys can positively influence a child's life by ensuring his or her right to a public education is adequately protected.
Co-Counseling Opportunities
Fair Housing Law Project and Public Interest Law Firm have a limited number of cases per year that require the help of private firms in the role of co-counsel. For attorneys and firms interested in co-counseling litigation matters, click HERE.
